My Health, My Food

Healthy lifestyle starts with healthy eating. Everyone can control what goes in their body, and it starts with motivation and knowledge.

Isn’t it great to be able to choose the type of lifestyle you want to live, the places you want to visit, the type of clothes you want to wear, the type of income you want to make, the type of partner you want to have, etc.? Then, shouldn’t you parlay that same freedom of choice and motivation into the foods you put in your body; the same body that hosts your spirit, and nurtures your health and well-being?

I think we secretly care about our health, but we get sidetracked by what we feel is top priority. Besides, if you are not healthy, or not feeling your best, how can you enjoy the other goals you set for your life? If you don’t take care of yourself, how can you enjoy the gift of longevity…to see your children grow up to become the successful adults you dreamed they would be? The habit of eating right sets the foundation for you to achieve your goals and dreams.

You may say that to eat right is easier said than done. I want to share with you that it really isn’t difficult. It just requires the same desire, persistence and discipline that you put into achieving your other life goals. As with anything, you have to start somewhere, and that first step is relative to where you are in achieving your goal. The first step could be to start cooking for yourself more and eating out less; adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet; minimizing or eliminating sweets and artificial sweeteners; drinking more water. A start takes you one step closer to your goal. You can do it. Healthy choices are readily available.

We live in a time where information is abundant. By the click of a mouse, we can virtually be anywhere we want to be on the information super highway. There is a lot that can be learned about food, and the benefits certain types of food have on our body. People are more aware of the benefits of eating healthy, taking steps to change their lifestyle, choosing prevention over cure, and making smarter choices when purchasing foods. If you are like me, you would probably want to start purchasing organic foods. Yes, they can be a little pricer, but it’s certainly cheaper than constant visits to the doctor for diseases that are preventable.

According to The Food Institute, http://www.foodinstitute.com, the market for healthy food is expanding about 5% to 6% a year. This tells me that as consumers, when it comes to food, we are demanding healthier options and challenging our country and farmers to provide healthier foods.

Let’s keep this momentum going! Let’s get that market for healthy food up a few more percentage points per year. It starts with you. You can reclaim your health, or define your path to a healthier lifestyle one step at a time.

Happy Healthy Eating!
